Droylsden do the double!

Tuesday 2nd February 2010
Blue Square Conference North
Vics 2 (Danks 48 Bailey 90)
Droylsden 5 (Prince 13 Whalley 15 Gray 68 80 pen Leadbetter 87)

For the second time this season Droylsden inflicted a five goal drubbing on Vics and for the second time it was the least that the Tameside club deserved. Far superior in every department the visitors emphatically underlined their superiority throughout most of the game.
The outcome was probably sealed within the opening 15 minutes when firstly PRINCE and then WHALLEY took advantage of the generous space afforded them down each flank to score from well placed shots., Vics were unable to respond and failed to produce one shot one shot on goal throughout the opening 45 minutes. While only a superb save from Spencer denied Prince from adding a third.

HALF TIME : VICS 0 DROYLSDEN 2

Unsurprisingly Andy Preece rang the changes at the opening of the second half. He immediately switched from a 3-5-2 formation that was clearly not working and adopted a 4-4-2 plan that meant that Danks replaced Aspin and Vermiglio took over from Herring. And the substitutions immediately paid off when Vermiglio shrugged off two challenges to leave DANKS to score from an accomplished finish. For the first time, and ultimately the last, Vics dominated a 20 minute passage of play. But they proved unable to provide a significant or sustained threat and once Whalley had broken and set up Gray only to be denied by another superb Spencer save the game returned to its previous pattern. The “Bloods” capitalised on their dominance with goals from a GRAY free kick that was converted from the edge of the box after Clarke had been dismissed for the offending foul. GRAY then converted a penalty kick before BAILEY scored with a late strike that proved to be the barest of consolations.
